The cheat meal

We have watched the Cheat Meal rise to popularity in dieting culture over the last few years, and it is easy to see why. It’s the perfect compromise of a scheduled weekly indulgence to reward your resolve, which also brings along all the proven health and diet benefits, such as increasing the production of the anti-starvation hormone, or temporarily boosting metabolism.

Due to the rise of Instagram food culture, dieters or the otherwise health-conscious can tend to feel left-out of the discussion around sharing their meals on social media. Their diets may feel like a punishment, as opposed to a positive lifestyle choice. The cheat meal is a perfect solution to the problem, allowing dieters to share their occasional meals and take pride in not only their health choices, but also the food they indulge in. We have seen this take off online, with the rise of the hashtags #cheatday and #cheatmeal.

There is one exception of the cheat meal however. The Keto diet, a low-carb, moderate protein & high fat diet, designed to cause the body to enter a state of ‘ketosis’, causing it to run on built-up fat reserves. If the body is given enough carbs during ketosis, it will resume production of glucose, meaning it isn’t possible to allow a cheat meal while on keto, unless it fits within the strict nutritional guidelines.

To meet the needs of our Keto friends, we offer our Lemon Slaw Lettuce Wrap, a Char-grilled Chicken Breast Fillet, wrapped in Cos Lettuce with melted aged tasty cheese, Tomato & Coleslaw, with our House Made Lemon Herb Mayo. We also offer a lettuce wrap substitute for any of our burgers, to eliminate the main source of carbs, the wheat bun.

#SaveHospo

With the end of the Victorian Stage 4 Lockdown, as well as the removal of the ring of steel, reuniting Metropolitan Melbourne with our Regional friends & family, our Hospitality Industry is now once able to begin its uphill battle to return to normal.  Despite finally being able to reopen, many of the local businesses in your area will be having a hard time adjusting to re-opening after lockdown, and it’s possible our communities will not look the same as they used to in the coming months, if our hospitality industry isn’t able to find its feet.

At Burgies, we were fortunate to be able to function with our online delivery, but we have still felt the burn of lockdown and it’s only thanks to you that we were able to remain afloat. We will be forever grateful for the support that we were shown from our communities.

The ‘Save Hospo’ movement has taken off online, with incredible support shown on Zomato, Instagram, and even through a petition on change.org, urging the Australian State and Federal Governments to oversee the huge burden our beloved industry is currently facing.

If you want to preserve the identity of your community, you can do your part by sharing reviews of your favorite local restaurants and cafes, going out to eat with friends & family and spreading your support through social media and word-of-mouth. With the full support of local communities, as well as the government, we are optimistic that we will make it through the tough times together.

The Biggie

Everyone’s in agreement that no aussie burger joint worth their chicken salt is complete without ‘the lot’. We’re all familiar with the milk bar or chip shop burgers with beetroot, pineapple and an egg. It’s an Aussie staple, so obviously we had to provide for our local eccentric aussie tastebuds.

We’ve added our own unique flair into the mix, with the addition of our Balkans Smoked beef, adding a sorely-missed smokiness to complement the sweetness brought by pineapple, as well as serving our burger on your choice of a fresh seeded white, sourdough or brioche bun, all baked fresh and delivered daily.

We felt there was no name more appropriate for our rendition of ‘the lot’ than: The Biggie.
